The Strike Witches version of Earth is separated into many regions, just like the real thing. Each region has its own languages that are mainly spoken there and each region has its own culture.
The cultures of the regions reflect those of Earth, except with the introduction of the Strike Witches, the lands are much more advanced. Due to the war, resources are strained, but there is no starvation, even if there is poverty. Everyone is provided with adequate health care and other basic necessities, such as housing, electricity and water. Even a dirt-poor person is given shelter if they want it, no one is left out on the streets.
'If they want it' is the key word. Obviously, loners and mercenaries living out in the wilderness are an exception to this rule, because they do not live under the jurisdiction of the government. They are above/below the law, depending on how you view them.
Trade is abundant between every region. War between nations is basically gone, at least from a militaristic standpoint. Mercenary groups from each region still fight among each other, there are plenty of covert Ops missions, as well as political warfare. These fights are mostly kept under wraps, though, and as far as the common man knows, the regions are all allies. The only warring is, of course, between mankind and the Neuroi. Banding together, Strike Witches and military from every region work against this common enemy.
To keep things running smoothly, a common language must be used. English is the most commonly used language for trade, since Liberion and Brittania are at the center of it. Therefore, everyone who wishes to trade with other nations or be a part of the military must learn English. The basic stuff, at the very least. This way, every nation can communicate and work together easily.
Even with all the improvements on this new Earth, though, the Neuroi threat still looms over the people. Until this threat is erased, the people always have fear in their hearts, even if it is well hidden.
